Mikel Arteta has personally reached out to 21-year-old Lyon winger Malik Fofana. Arsenal are pushing for the Belgium international's transfer ahead of the deadline following Lyon's exit from the Champions League.

Arsenal are seriously weighing up a move for Lyon winger Malik Fofana before the transfer window closes on Tuesday. This is according to reputable insider David Ornstein from The Athletic.

The 21-year-old Belgian international has long been on the Gunners' radar and has already had a direct phone conversation with Arsenal's manager Mikel Arteta, where they discussed the potential switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Fofana's signing has become an increasingly attractive prospect for Arsenal’s hierarchy, especially in light of Lyon's disappointing performance in the Champions League qualifiers, where the French club failed to progress to the main stage of Europe’s elite competition.

Since moving from Gent in 2024, the Belgian forward has made 83 appearances for Lyon, scoring 19 goals. Fofana has started the current campaign brightly, netting twice in six matches — including a goal against Fenerbahce in the Champions League qualifying round, as well as finding the net in a Ligue 1 clash against Toulouse.
