Arsenal have opted to keep Myles Lewis-Skelley and will not entertain offers for him ahead of the transfer window deadline. As a result, Manchester United's chances of signing the 19-year-old English talent have drastically diminished.
Earlier reports indicated that United were keen on Lewis-Skelley, viewing him as a potential reinforcement for their left flank. Arsenal valued their homegrown star at over £50 million.
According to Football Insider, the Gunners had initially considered the possibility of selling the player earlier this summer, but they have since changed their stance. Mikel Arteta is personally committed to retaining Lewis-Skelley, seeing him as an integral part of the squad and the club's long-term plans.
This is underscored by the player's status at the start of the season: Lewis-Skelley was named in the starting lineup for Arsenal's first two matches, and he played a role in last season's Champions League final.
Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour is also confident that a move to Manchester United is off the cards.
Parlour stated:
I know there have been rumours about Manchester United's interest, but I can say right now: he will definitely remain an Arsenal player this season. They wouldn't have started him in the opening match of the season if they were planning to sell him to United.
He’s come through the academy, loves this club, and knows it inside out. He just needs to keep working hard. I only see positive things for Lewis-Skelley in this situation.
