Manchester United manager Michael Karik has spoken about the rivalry between Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha ahead of the derby clash with Manchester City on Sunday.
According to the United boss, the decision on which striker to select will also depend on the specific attributes of the opponent.
Michael Karik stated:
Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko clearly possess different strengths. However, there are common principles guiding what we aim to achieve as a team. Each player poses a threat to opponents in their unique way.
Our choice relies partly on the opponent, but also on the balance of our team and the areas we wish to exploit. There are quite a few factors to consider here.
Karik also heaped praise on Marcus Rashford following his performance in their last match:
I'm really pleased with him in many respects. On Sunday, he was a genuine threat. He was a bit unlucky not to score more, but he was incredibly dangerous. I don't know what else to add — I'm just very glad to have him with us. We have great options, so we’re trying to keep everyone fresh.
The manager also addressed the midfield at United and the adaptation of Youri Tielemans:
All of our midfielders are technically gifted and capable of linking up with the attack. It’s a real pleasure to have such options in the squad. Youri has settled in magnificently, and Andre has adapted really well too. We're asking Mason for a slightly different role compared to what he used to do, but he's capable of fulfilling that. The understanding between them is consistently improving.
