Julian Nagelsmann is interested in taking over at Manchester United if the club parts ways with Michael Carrick. According to talkSPORT, Eddie Howe remains the leading candidate, while Nagelsmann's move wouldn’t necessitate compensation.

Julian Nagelsmann is keen on the prospect of managing Manchester United should the club decide to part ways with Michael Carrick. This was reported by talkSPORT, citing German football journalist Konstantin Ekner.

For now, Carrick remains in charge and is set to lead the team in their Premier League clash against Chelsea on October 31. However, the team's unsatisfactory results are ramping up the pressure on the head coach, and discussions about potential successors are intensifying in the media.

According to Ekner, Nagelsmann’s interest in Manchester United has been on the cards for some time, though the right moment for a move has yet to materialise. A further factor could be his connection with Christopher Vivell, who is linked to the club’s football structure.

“As far as I understand, Nagelsmann would be interested, but he’s not the main candidate. Eddie Howe remains the favourite, but Nagelsmann is ready,” Ekner stated during a talkSPORT broadcast.

The journalist also pointed out that the German Football Association has released the coach from his contractual obligations early, which eliminates any barriers related to his existing deal with another club.

Besides Nagelsmann, other potential successors to Carrick include Eddie Howe and Antonio Conte. According to talkSPORT, Howe is currently considered the frontrunner for the role.

However, appointing Howe may require paying compensation to Newcastle, a situation that doesn’t apply in Nagelsmann’s case, which could be a significant factor for Manchester United’s hierarchy.

At this moment, the club has not announced Carrick’s dismissal nor confirmed any negotiations with possible candidates. The coach's future will largely depend on the results of upcoming matches.
