In a recent podcast, ex-Chelsea star John Obi Mikel has delivered a blunt message to manager Xabi Alonso, insisting the club needs to find a way to utilise Estevao more frequently or they may lose a potentially elite player.
Mikel highlighted the fierce competition in the front line, saying: “When you have that trio performing as they are — Morgan Rogers, Cole Palmer, and Joao Pedro — it’s tough for a young player like Estevao to get minutes.”
However, he was quick to emphasise Estevao's immense potential:
You can see there's raw talent there, but he just needs a coach who can guide him through his career, someone who can maximise his abilities.
The former Nigeria international pointed out that in recent matches, Estevao has seen too little action, particularly when Joao Pedro was injured. Alonso opted for Geovany Quenda to start, only bringing Estevao on for the final 20 minutes.
This isn't a criticism of Xabi Alonso, but it’s something he needs to pay attention to,” Mikel stated.
He added:
We have a young player, and the last thing we want to see is him leaving the club. There are rumours that he’s unhappy and wants to leave. That cannot happen.
In closing, Mikel insisted:
Xabi Alonso needs to find a way. Whatever it takes, he must ensure Estevao gets on the pitch.
