Chelsea forward Joao Pedro reflected on his team's dramatic 4-3 victory against Brighton, his former club, during an interview with BBC Match of the Day at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian acknowledged that Chelsea made a strong start to the match but allowed their opponents back into the game. He was particularly complimentary of the performance from Emiliano Martinez.
“We started very well, but then we conceded goals. We need to be more stable and not give the opponent any confidence. Dibu [Emiliano Martinez] showed his class again,” he said.
“Step by step, we will reach our level. But it was really important to take all three points today. I know Brighton well and felt I could be a threat on the break. I managed to showcase my speed in attack today.”
On celebrating in front of Brighton fans, Pedro added:
“I just celebrated the goal. It could have been any fans or any team. I simply wanted to celebrate, that’s it.”
Discussing his own unfortunate own goal, Pedro remarked:
“I spoke to Dibu. I apologised. I was just trying to help.”
Pedro had high praise for Chelsea's new recruit:
“He’s a special goalkeeper. He’s won trophies. He came here to help us, and we’re very glad to have him in our team.”
Speaking about his attacking partnership with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers, Pedro emphasised the team’s attacking strength:
“We are very strong going forward. Overall, we have good players in every position. We need to build our confidence and team spirit, and hopefully, we can continue winning like we did today.”
