Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has admitted he would like to see Barcelona crowned Champions League winners this season—as long as the trophy isn't headed to Anfield.
Speaking as a pundit for CBS Sports, Carragher emphasised that Barcelona's return to the pinnacle of European football would be a significant boost for the tournament itself.
“I would love to see Barcelona win the Champions League this year if Liverpool doesn't win it,” Carragher stated.
The former defender believes that Barcelona should be back in contention for the most prestigious trophies. He regards the Catalan giants as one of the most renowned and prestigious clubs in world football and feels they belong among the leading candidates for European glory.
“I think it's time we see them back among the best clubs in the world, among the most famous teams. They've had financial issues, but don't most clubs? So it would be great to see them succeed,” he added.
Barcelona kick off their Champions League campaign for the 2026/27 season under the management of Hansi Flick. Their opening match in the tournament is scheduled for 9th September against Feyenoord at home. Following that, they will face Galatasaray, PSG, Aston Villa, Sabah, Manchester City, Sporting and Como.
Many consider Barcelona to be one of the strong contenders for this year's trophy. Current odds suggest they are among the teams with the best chances of clinching the title.
