Jamie Carragher has issued a serious warning to Arsenal and Manchester City about the looming threat posed by Chelsea in the title race. The former defender believes the London club is being underestimated, as they are fully equipped to challenge for Premier League glory this season.
Carragher elaborated on his thoughts:
I’m going to say something that might upset a few people, but I genuinely believe that Chelsea can win the Premier League this season. Everyone keeps talking about Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, yet they seriously overlook Chelsea.
Look at their squad. You have Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers, and top-class talent in every position, and now they are led by Xabi Alonso.
This is a dangerous mix. Chelsea don’t look like a team that is missing one or two pieces. They look like a squad that has nearly everything required to mount a title challenge. And Alonso is a crucial part of this puzzle. He knows how to build winning teams, manage strong personalities, create organisation, and instil belief in the players.
Why are we behaving as if Chelsea are underdogs? Let’s be frank: people are too focused on Arsenal and Manchester City to see what Chelsea are building. If Palmer stays injury-free, Rogers adapts quickly, and Alonso gets this squad playing the way he wants, Chelsea will surprise everyone.
Furthermore, I’m going to go further. I don’t just think Chelsea will contend for the Premier League. I’m confident that Chelsea can actually WIN it.
And when that happens, suddenly everyone will act like they expected it. But I’m telling you right now: underestimating Chelsea is a mistake. This season, they could become the team nobody wants to face.
