Hull City winger Sorba Thomas was involved in a serious car crash near the club's training facility. The news was officially confirmed by the club's press office, bringing relief to fans.
The incident took place on Friday morning on Millhouse Woods Lane in Cottingham. The 27-year-old Welsh international was driving a grey Land Rover Defender when the vehicle flipped onto its roof, sustaining extensive damage and leaving shattered glass scattered about. Authorities from the Humberside Police swiftly cordoned off the area, urging locals to find alternative routes.
In a remarkable turn of events, despite the wreckage, Thomas managed to escape from the vehicle unaided and remained unharmed.
In a reassuring statement for supporters, the club remarked:
“Hull City Football Club is incredibly relieved to announce that our player Sorba Thomas is uninjured. We are aware of the images of Sorba’s damaged vehicle circulating on social media, and we want to assure our fans that he emerged from the incident completely unharmed.”
Witnesses provided details about the dramatic morning crash which occurred around 08:30 BST.
“I was lying in bed when I suddenly heard a terrifying crash and grinding metal. I jumped up, ran downstairs, and saw the car resting in my hedgerow,” shared one eyewitness.
A member of the National Health Service living on the same street voiced frustrations over being trapped at home due to the road closure caused by the accident:
“Patients won’t be able to make their medical appointments on time due to the road block. There is only one way in and out of here, and it was just a matter of time before something like this happened.”
Sorba Thomas joined the Tigers in early September from Championship side Stoke City just before the summer transfer window closed. The transfer fee has not been disclosed, but the Welsh winger has signed a four-year deal running until the summer of 2030. Thomas has been a regular in the Welsh national team, most notably featuring in the 2022 World Cup matches in Qatar.
