Liverpool's academy is renowned for producing top talent, but 23-year-old Harvey Elliott's career is currently experiencing a serious downturn.
Following an unsuccessful loan spell at Aston Villa last season, the midfielder moved to Spanish club Valencia. However, adapting to La Liga has proven incredibly difficult, with local media consistently criticising his performances.
Things took a turn for the worse on Saturday as Elliott received two yellow cards within a minute of his introduction. He was sent off less than 20 minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Valencia boss Javier Aguirre was scathing in his remarks regarding the incident.
Harvey Elliott's dismissal was absurd, ridiculous. I've already told him this. It's not his fault; it's my fault for putting out players like that. I decide who plays and how. I'll have a word with him.
The midfielder now faces losing his spot in the squad even after serving his suspension.
Liverpool could opt to recall him from his loan as early as the January transfer window. For many, this may signal the end of Elliott's career at Anfield.
