Freddie Ljungberg regards Kai Havertz as the best player for Arsenal in their impressive 2-1 victory over Chelsea. The German found the net and was instrumental in Martin Odegaard's winning goal, which secured him the official man of the match award.
Arsenal fell behind early, conceding a goal to Morgan Rogers in just the second minute. However, Havertz equalised midway through the first half. Following the break, he selflessly allowed a pass to roll through to Odegaard, setting up the captain to score the decisive goal.
Speaking on Viaplay, Ljungberg stated:
In my opinion, Havertz was the best player on the pitch. The way he interacts with his teammates, how he lets the ball go when needed, and his unselfish play were all of the highest standard.
The former Arsenal player particularly highlighted the moment leading up to Odegaard's goal. He noted that Havertz stands out from many strikers because he doesn't seek to finish every attack himself:
He's a different type of forward, always evaluating the situation around him and knowing exactly what's happening. He's not selfish.
Many forwards in that situation would take the ball, even when aware their teammate is charging in behind: 'I’ll score, I’ll be the hero!'
But he’s not that kind of player.
