Liverpool's Florian Wirtz has voiced his frustration after the Reds drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at Anfield, marking the second consecutive week they were forced to come back from behind.
The scoring opened in the 24th minute with Forest's Dan Ndoi netting first, and Liverpool's Alexander Isak equalising shortly after the break. However, Morgan Gibbs-White restored the visitors' lead from the penalty spot before Victor Munoz scored a stunning equaliser in the 82nd minute, securing his first goal for the club.
In an interview with the club's press team, the German midfielder made it clear that reliance on character alone is not enough to secure victories:
I am very disappointed. We set ourselves the highest standards, but again we couldn’t take all three points. Showing character is good, but we want more. We should not be proud of just coming back after conceding. Our goal is to dominate our opponents, to surpass them and to win.
Trailling 1-0, we upped the tempo in the second half as per the manager's request and improved our play, but immediately after scoring we conceded a penalty. We must do better: we need to defend quicker and occupy the right positions more efficiently.
Wirtz also took a moment to praise his teammates who found the net:
I am very happy for Isak and Munoz. They deserve those goals, working incredibly hard in training and every match.
