Chelsea are not planning to sign free agent Yves Bissouma. According to Simon Phillips, the club will consider the transfer only in case of serious issues with midfielders.

Chelsea are not planning to sign free agent Yves Bissouma anytime soon. The London club may reconsider the midfielder only if they face a severe shortage of players in midfield.

According to Simon Phillips, Chelsea view Bissouma purely as a backup option in the event of mass injuries in their midfield ranks. Given the current situation, the club's hierarchy does not feel there's an urgent need to secure his signature.

Previously, it was reported that the 30-year-old was offered to Chelsea after the club failed to secure the transfer of Lamin Kamara from Monaco at the last minute. Since leaving Tottenham, Bissouma remains a free agent.

Chelsea currently do not need Bissouma

Despite Enzo Fernandez's departure to Manchester City, Chelsea's hierarchy believes they have enough options to kick off the season.

As per Football Insider, Xabi Alonso is satisfied with the players at his disposal and is not in a rush to bring Bissouma on board.

The manager currently has Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, and Jordan Henderson, while Malo Gusto can also be utilised in central midfield if necessary.

For now, Bissouma remains a contingency plan for Chelsea. If the club encounters a serious wave of injuries in the midfield over the coming months, they may well reassess the potential signing of the 30-year-old midfielder.
