Chelsea have imposed a direct veto on 18-year-old striker Dastan Satpaev participating in Burnley's match against Charlton Athletic, which ended in a 2-2 draw. Burnley head coach Niki Haye officially confirmed that Satpaev's absence from the squad was a direct request from the player's rights holders.
Satpaev made the switch to Chelsea last summer from Kazakhstan's Kairat, after which he immediately joined Burnley on a one-year loan. The young forward quickly established himself in the starting lineup, but a hamstring injury sidelined him in September. After missing four matches, he returned to action last weekend, clocking 16 minutes off the bench in the convincing 4-0 victory against Watford. Nonetheless, the coaching staff were unable to call upon the promising talent for Tuesday's clash against Charlton.
Niki Haye elaborated on the situation regarding the loan agreement:
No, we weren’t given permission by Chelsea. They stopped him from playing because he had a serious injury. Their medical team regulates the player’s fitness alongside our doctors, and they made it clear he shouldn’t be on the pitch today.
This is a standard part of the agreement: when players get injured, their medical department works closely with ours. We were aware of this in advance, but obviously, it's a disappointing loss. When Dastan came on against Watford, everyone saw he posed a different threat at the opposition's goal. He brings a new dimension compared to Andreas Huntondji, offering more depth, explosive pace, and a touch of technical quality. But we continue to work hard — we have another game on Friday.
