Arsenal have entered the final stages of negotiations for a new long-term contract with Mikel Arteta.
According to the latest reports, talks have significantly accelerated in recent weeks, with complete confidence inside the club that an agreement will be reached. Earlier, Arsenal's CEO Richard Garlick stated that the contract extension was merely a matter of time.
A new contract is on the horizon
Arteta's current deal runs until the summer of 2027. The club has expressed no concerns about their head coach's future.
Discussions about an extension began back in January, but the club primarily focused on strengthening the squad over the summer, which shifted attention away from finalising a new agreement with Arteta. However, the situation has changed, and both parties are now much closer to a final deal.
In August, Richard Garlick hinted that both the coach and the club are keen to continue their collaboration.
He reiterated that Arteta wants to stay at Arsenal and that the hierarchy wishes to keep the Spaniard. Garlick emphasised that formalising a new contract is just a matter of time.
Arteta set to become one of the highest-paid managers
The new deal is expected to come with a significant financial uplift.
A report from September 10 indicated that Arsenal are prepared to offer Arteta a substantial salary increase. There were also speculations about a potential long-term deal lasting until 2033, although this duration has not yet been confirmed by the club.
This suggests that Arsenal aim not just to extend Arteta's contract but to cement him as a crucial figure in the long-term vision of the club.
Arteta has taken Arsenal to a new level
Since taking the reins at Arsenal in December 2019, Arteta has completely overhauled the team structure, progressively transforming the Gunners into serious trophy contenders.
The pinnacle of this transformation came last season when Arsenal lifted the Premier League trophy for the first time since 2004. They also reached the Champions League final.
Following such a successful campaign, Arteta's standing within the club is even stronger. The hierarchy is eager to maintain continuity and further develop the project under the Spanish tactician's guidance.
Arsenal are off to a perfect start in title defence
This season, Arteta's side has also made a tremendous start.
They have won all three of their opening Premier League matches—against Coventry, Aston Villa, and Chelsea. Most recently, the Gunners triumphed over Chelsea with a 2-1 victory, thanks to goals from Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard.
They also began their Champions League campaign successfully, defeating Napoli 1-0 on September 9, courtesy of a late goal by Odegaard.
Thus, negotiations for a new contract are taking place against the backdrop of an ideal start to the season.
Arteta turned down options in Saudi Arabia
Another factor supporting the continuation of their partnership is Arteta's desire to remain at Arsenal.
This summer, there was interest from Saudi clubs Al-Ittihad and Al-Nassr. However, Arteta chose to stay in London and continue his work with Arsenal.
The club is now preparing to finalise a long-term deal that should alleviate any uncertainties about the coach's future.
If negotiations conclude successfully, Arteta will continue to lead Arsenal under a new agreement with enhanced financial terms.
