Arsenal have entered advanced negotiations with Lyon regarding the transfer of 21-year-old Belgian winger Malick Fofana. This has been reported by renowned football insider Fabrizio Romano.
The French club values their young forward at €40 million, but the Gunners are firmly against paying that amount in a single instalment. Instead, they are looking to strike a deal that’s financially favourable. Currently, both parties are discussing a structured transfer formula that includes performance-related bonuses.
Fofana is eager to join Arsenal and has emerged as a key target for Mikel Arteta as he looks to bolster his attacking flanks before the transfer window closes.
Arsenal's interest in the Belgian comes amidst significant changes in their attacking lineup:
- Gabriel Martinelli has agreed to a move to Saudi side Al-Hilal for €70 million.
- Gabriel Jesus is close to completing a transfer to Barcelona for around €10 million.

Fofana joined Lyon from Belgian side Gent in January 2024 for €17 million, and his current contract with the French club runs until June 2028. The Gent academy product has made 64 appearances for his former club, scoring 5 goals and providing 10 assists, and he has represented Belgium's youth teams over 20 times, making his senior debut for the national team in October 2024.
