The English Premier League is set to establish a new all-time high for spending in the transfer market. Just £13 million stands between the clubs and last year's record of £3.14 billion, a milestone anticipated to be achieved before the transfer window wraps up.
However, Liverpool's recent acquisition of 18-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Lukka Brugmans from Genk for £30 million will not contribute to this summer’s tally.
Due to financial accounting regulations, as the towering goalkeeper heads back to Genk on a one-year loan and will only don Liverpool's colours prior to the 2027/28 campaign, his transfer fee will be recorded in the books for the next summer transfer window. Consequently, it is down to other deadline day deals within the league to push the spending over the historic £3.14 billion mark.
