Roberto De Zerbi revealed that he offered Richarlison a contract extension at Tottenham before the season, hoping to keep the forward. The Brazilian declined, leading the club to decide to move forward without him.

Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi has shed light on the club's willingness to let Richarlison go.

The Italian revealed that he approached the Brazilian forward about extending his contract prior to the season, but was met with a refusal.

De Zerbi stated:

At the start of pre-season training, I spoke with Richarlison and asked him if he wanted to extend his contract because I was happy to keep him with us.

Richarlison responded: 'No.' So, I’m sorry, but we have to turn the page.

Consequently, Tottenham’s decision to move on without the 29-year-old striker came after his rejection of a new deal.

Previously, a transfer to Trabzonspor fell through just before the Turkish transfer window closed. Tottenham and the player's representatives are still exploring options for his exit.
