Bournemouth manager Marco Rose has given his take on the 2-2 draw against Newcastle in their recent Premier League clash.
The Cherries were leading 2-1 until the 88th minute, only for Jacob Ramsey to strike late and deny the visitors a vital win.
🗣️Rose on the dropped points
Rose acknowledged that this marked the second time in two matches his side had conceded a crucial late goal.
"This has happened again for the second time in as many matches, but that’s how it goes. I’m very pleased with the confidence the lads showed today. We were really good in the first half and had the chance to score a third goal."
According to Rose, Bournemouth conceded the equaliser from a situation that appeared relatively harmless.
"We conceded more or less from nothing. We had our chances in the second half to extend our lead, but we failed to take them. In the end, it's a draw and we have to accept that."
Yet, Rose pointed out a key positive from the match:
"It’s good that we are putting ourselves in positions where we can win games. That’s the most important thing."
🛡️'We must defend like it’s our last chance'
The German coach urged his team to learn from another loss of a lead.
"We need to discuss the negative moments, improve and learn how to see matches like this out for a win."
He further stressed that if his side cannot finish games off in attack, they must be rock solid in defence.
"If we can't finish games with a win, we have to defend our goal as if it’s the last match of our lives."
⚡️ Rose pleased with pressing
Despite dropping two points, the manager was pleased with the team's pressing game during the first half.
"The way we pressed in the first half was truly impressive. They had no real solution against our pressing and how we entered their half."
However, Rose is aware that time to rectify mistakes is limited due to the busy fixture schedule.
"The season has only just started, but now we will have less time for training."
🌍European competitions add pressure
Bournemouth will need to juggle Premier League commitments with European fixtures, and Rose has already started to alert his team to the severity of the challenges ahead.
"We must stay united. I know how demanding this will be for a club not used to playing in so many tournaments."
"It’s going to be really tough for us. We need positive results, and we must fight for them."
Bournemouth's next outing will be on Tuesday in the League Cup against Lincoln City, followed by a league clash and a trip to San Sebastian.
