15-Second Brief
Following a home defeat to Bournemouth (0-3), Dutch pundits are urging Manchester United to replace Carrick with Arne Slot, who left Liverpool in May.

Manchester United are facing mounting pressure to sack Michael Carrick and make a move for former Liverpool boss Arne Slot, according to Dutch journalist Martijn Krabbendam. This plea follows yet another damaging defeat for the Red Devils.

Last weekend, United suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, compounding an already disappointing start to the season.

After eight Premier League matches, the club finds itself languishing in 16th place, with a mere seven points to their name. They've managed just one league victory so far.

In September, the team exited the Carabao Cup after losing to Brighton, and in the Champions League, they’ve only won once from three outings.

United's last win under Carrick came against Sabah on September 10.

If Slot is willing, Carrick must go immediately

The situation at Manchester United was a topic of discussion on Dutch ESPN, featuring pundits Kenneth Perez, Martijn Krabbendam, and Sjoerd Mossou.

Krabbendam, who specializes in Feyenoord and Dutch national team coverage, strongly advocated for the club to consider Slot as a viable replacement.

The journalist stated:

They need to bring in Arne Slot. If he's ready to take over, Carrick must be sacked immediately.

Slot has been out of a job since leaving Liverpool in May, with Andoni Iraola stepping into the Merseyside hot seat, currently leading the team to fourth in the Premier League.

However, there have been no indications of negotiations between Manchester United and Slot; the suggestion appears to have come solely from Krabbendam.

This is the worst managed club in the world

Another participant in the discussion, Sjoerd Mossou, was even more scathing in his criticism.

He asserted that the issues affecting Manchester United extend beyond Carrick, pointing the finger at the decision-making from the club's hierarchy led by Jim Ratcliffe.

Mossou proclaimed:

This is the worst managed club in the world. Since Jim Ratcliffe's arrival, nothing has improved.

He came in with grand plans when the team was still led by Erik ten Hag. Yet, nothing has been achieved since. It's complete chaos.

The journalist recalled the club's inconsistent decisions regarding management.

First, they wanted to stick with Ten Hag, then they sacked him anyway. The sporting director left too. It's all just following the same pattern.

Arne Slot wants to return to club management

Since leaving Liverpool, Slot has been linked with the Dutch national team managerial role.

Ultimately, the national side appointed Xavi, replacing Ronald Koeman.

Slot expressed in August his preference to work with a club at this stage of his career.

He stated:

At this point in my career, I prefer being on the training pitch with my players every day. You can't do that to the same extent with a national team.

Slot took charge of Liverpool in the summer of 2024 after a successful stint at Feyenoord.

In his debut season, he led the club to the Premier League title; however, the following campaign was a struggle, finishing fifth despite significant summer investment.

Slot departed Anfield in May 2026 and has not managed a team since.

At this moment, it's unclear if Manchester United are contemplating a managerial change, but with just one win in their last eight matches, the pressure on Michael Carrick continues to mount.
