Manchester United have discovered their opponents for the Champions League group stage, yet one fixture threatens to become a logistical nightmare for their away supporters.
The Red Devils will face Italian debutants Como, managed by Cesc Fabregas. The Italian club hopes to host United at their home ground, the Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium, located on the picturesque banks of Lake Como. However, should UEFA give the go-ahead, United will only receive a modest away allocation of around 600 tickets.
This limited allocation stems from the stadium's small capacity of approximately 13,000 spectators, which is currently undergoing extensive renovations to meet UEFA's stringent regulations. Como's management has invested heavily in modernising the stands and infrastructure, but construction work is still ongoing.
If UEFA inspectors deem the stadium unfit for European matches, the club may have to relocate their home games to the Mapei Stadium - Citta del Tricolore in Sassuolo, situated about 240 kilometres away. This change would boost the away allocation for United fans to approximately 1,100 seats.
Managed by Michael Carrick, United return to Europe’s premier club tournament after a three-year absence. Following the draw, the Manchester club will also face Bayern, Atletico Madrid, Roma, Sporting, RB Leipzig, Villarreal, Sabakh, and Como. While the players gear up for a fierce battle for points, supporters are set for a tough competition to secure one of the coveted 600 tickets to Italy.
