Gordon Strachan, Paul Scholes, and Nicky Butt have sharply criticised Lisandro Martinez. The veterans claim the Argentine is only at Manchester United due to Erik ten Hag and mocked his recent complaints about the club's hierarchy.

Gordon Strachan, Paul Scholes, and Nicky Butt have united in their scathing assessment of Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez, asserting that the Argentine falls drastically short of the club's requirements.

Last week, Martinez found himself embroiled in controversy after publicly rebuking director of football Jason Wilcox for his inactivity in the summer transfer window. Although he later issued an apology, the incident left a sour note among fans and pundits alike.

In a recent episode of the podcast The Good, The Bad & The Football, Scholes didn't hold back in ridiculing the defender's claims.

The irony is, as Martinez himself says, if the people at the top of the club were actually doing their jobs, he probably wouldn't even be playing for the team. They would have replaced him.

Nicky Butt echoed these sentiments, bluntly stating:

He’s very fortunate that they aren't bringing in other players, because he would definitely have been replaced.

Strachan added that Martinez’s presence at Manchester United is largely due to former manager Erik ten Hag. The Scot took a sharp dig at the player's physical attributes and intelligence on the pitch.

If he hadn’t been with Ten Hag at the same club, he wouldn’t be at Manchester United. Because if people analyse the stats now and you ask what the height of a centre-back is, and they say around 170 centimetres, you'd think it was a joke. He wouldn’t be here if it wasn't for Ten Hag.

He should be on his knees thanking any god he believes in for being here. We need to talk about a lack of intelligence and humility. Some people aren't that bright! He won the World Cup, but if I was playing with Messi, I probably would have won the World Cup too.
