Javier Hernandez, the former Manchester United forward, has candidly discussed the financial and emotional toll following his divorce from model Sarah Kohan.
In a recent appearance on La Mesa Caliente, Hernandez, popularly known as Chicharito, revealed that the aftermath of their separation has left him with significant financial obligations, despite ensuring his children want for nothing.
Since the divorce, I've been saddled with a massive debt each year that no one sees. My kids have never wanted for anything and they never will. But I trusted people too much, and they took advantage of a very painful situation for me.
Reports from TMZ Sports indicate that during the divorce proceedings, Kohan sought about £73,000 monthly for child maintenance and personal support.
Hernandez expressed that the most difficult aspect for him is being unable to spend quality time with his children.
My kids aren't with me, I can't see them all the time. I talk to them on the phone, and when I'm working, sometimes I can't even catch them on video calls.
Describing his emotional state, Chicharito divulged feelings of anger, arrogance, and pain after the breakup, while taking responsibility for the collapse of his marriage.
I wasn't the partner I should have been. I wasn't the father I wanted to be. I wasn't a good friend and not the person I wanted to see in the mirror.
This challenging personal phase for Hernandez coincided with the passing of his grandfather, Tomas Balcasar, whom he regarded as a "second father." The forward has shared that he went through a depressive episode, losing motivation during the pandemic, even crying during solitary training sessions.
Hernandez and Kohan parted ways in 2020. The 38-year-old Mexican is currently plying his trade in the USA with Atletico Dallas.
