Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has launched a scathing critique of Milos Kerkez, questioning the young player's understanding of the game and decision-making abilities. He even likened the Hungarian to former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez.
Speaking on The Overlap, Carragher didn't hold back:
Kerkez's game understanding is really weak. You watch a match and wonder, why did he do that?
Last season, which was Kerkez's first, I called him the 'Darwin Nunez of defenders'. That may have sounded a bit harsh at the time, but he just puts his head down and runs... Everything Kerkez does is at 100 miles an hour — every time he goes to press an opponent or makes a pass.
Kerkez has faced significant criticism for his defensive play since joining Liverpool, and questions also linger around Jeremy Frimpong. The full-back positions remain a troublesome area for the team.
In their opening two matches of the new Premier League season against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, Liverpool conceded four goals.
