Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has praised Cody Gakpo's vital role for the team after their 2-0 win against Ipswich. The Dutchman, who was linked with a move to Manchester City before the transfer window slammed shut, provided assists for both of Alexander Isak's goals.

In the final days of the transfer window, Manchester City had made a big push to sign the 27-year-old Gakpo, reportedly tabled an £80 million offer. However, Liverpool chose to keep the player, unable to find a suitable replacement.
Following the closing of the window, Gakpo held discussions with Liverpool’s hierarchy and ultimately remained at Anfield. In the match against Ipswich, he was instrumental in securing the Reds' first victory of the new Premier League season, assisting Isak on two occasions.
