Arsenal defender Ezri Konsa expressed his delight following the Gunners' 2-0 victory over Everton in the eighth round of the Premier League. The player scored his first goal for the London club and also contributed to keeping a clean sheet.
“It's a wonderful feeling. A clean sheet and a goal — my first for the club. Overall, it was a fantastic day,” Konsa said in an interview with PLP.
“I've been waiting for my first goal for a while”
The defender admitted that he had long been eager to mark his name on the scoresheet for Arsenal. Ahead of the match, he had discussed the potential of scoring with the set-piece coach.
“I've been waiting for my first goal for some time. Before the game, I spoke with the set-piece coach, and he too was eager for me to score. So, it felt right to finally get on the scoresheet today,” Konsa explained.
Konsa also mentioned that the team was anticipating a goal from a set-piece, noting their previous attempts against Bayern Munich in which they created several good opportunities.
“Yes, we felt it was coming. After the game against Bayern, where we had several good chances from set-pieces, we knew the goal was near. And today, that moment arrived,” the defender added.
Konsa praises Gabriel
The defender took a moment to congratulate Gabriel, who scored the second goal for Arsenal in his 200th Premier League match.
“I'm really happy for him. He's an outstanding player and a wonderful person. I'm glad for him. Since I joined the club, he's made my life easier on the pitch, and playing alongside him is a real pleasure,” Konsa noted.
Konsa also emphasized that he wasn't surprised by Arsenal's strong performances at the Emirates this season.
“I've come to this stadium for many years and know how tough it is to play against us here. It's no surprise to me. We are champions, and to remain champions, we must keep winning. This is our home, and we want to win as many games here as possible,” he concluded.
