Enzo Mareska has praised Mark Guehi's leadership qualities and stated that the defender could become Manchester City's captain in the future. The Englishman is already part of the leadership group alongside Ruben Dias, Erling Haaland, and Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Enzo Mareska, the head coach of Manchester City, believes that Mark Guehi is among the leaders of the team and does not dismiss the idea that the defender could be handed the captain's armband in the future.

The manager praised the English footballer's personal qualities, highlighting his modesty and ability to set an example for his teammates.

Mareska explains why he trusts Guehi

“Talking about Mark is easy because he’s a fantastic guy and a wonderful person. He’s very humble. He might not see himself as a leader, but for us, he is one of the leaders,” said Mareska.

The coach emphasised that leadership can manifest in various ways. According to him, some players take charge verbally, while others inspire through their actions.

“There are different types of leaders. Some need to be more vocal, while he’s a fairly calm leader. But he possesses all the qualities necessary for this role. Currently, he is one of four captains, and in the future, he could definitely become the captain of the team,” added the manager.

Guehi does not see himself as a leader

The defender has previously stated that he doesn’t view himself as a natural leader. Nonetheless, he respects other people's opinions and strives to live up to their expectations.

“It’s funny, but I don’t see myself as a leader. That’s how other people view me, and I respect that. I just try to be myself and set an example, especially now that the attention is on me,” explained Guehi.

The player also mentioned that he continues to learn about leadership and gradually grasps the nuances that help him interact better with his teammates.
