Enzo Fernandez has made it clear that he always aspired to play for a club of Manchester City’s stature, mere days after leaving Chelsea.
The Argentine midfielder exited Stamford Bridge in the final hours of the transfer window for a staggering £125 million, matching the British transfer record.
During his time at Chelsea, Fernandez managed to lift both the Club World Cup and the UEFA Europa Conference League. Now, he’s determined to achieve even greater things at City.
In his first hours at the club, the 25-year-old reflected on the move when speaking to Manchester City's official website:
"I’m thrilled to be here. I always dreamt of playing for such a big club as City.
I’m thankful for this opportunity. For me and my family, this is a very emotional moment — to make such a step at 25, continuing on a career I’ve always dreamt of.
I’m incredibly happy to be here and am enjoying my first hours with the club. I can already see how significant it is, and we’re going to have fun winning many trophies together."
With City having clinched 20 trophies in the last decade, Fernandez is keen to contribute to maintaining their winning momentum.
He emphasized that the expectation at City is to compete for titles across all competitions:
"Manchester City must win every trophy it competes for. In every tournament we enter, we need to compete and win because the history of this club demands it."
Fernandez also admitted that he was quick to accept City's offer:
"Honestly, from day one they believed in me and called to say they wanted to sign me. I didn’t hesitate for a second.
This is a club that has won so much in recent years. It’s a club that is making history in football, and for me, it’s a huge challenge."
