Emile Heskey believes that 17-year-old Rio Nguumoha could see increased playing time on Liverpool's right flank following Mohamed Salah's departure. However, the former Merseyside forward cautioned against expecting the young Englishman to replicate the Egyptian's scoring output.
Salah left Liverpool this summer after an impressive 435 appearances and 257 goals for the club. The Egyptian sits third on the club's all-time goalscoring list, meaning the team faces the challenge of compensating for his significant contribution to their attack.
One potential solution could be Nguumoha, who primarily operates on the left wing but may find opportunities on the opposite flank this season.
Heskey believes that to make this position a success, the young player will need to adapt his style:
I would love to see that. The only thing is, he’ll need to change his mindset as he usually plays on the left. If he can adjust, he could be very dangerous.
When you have a player who can carry the ball and beat defenders, he inevitably draws players from other positions, creating space. That allows for numerical advantages in different areas of the pitch.
He certainly looks like a promising player for the future. The only thing is, we can't expect Rio to deliver the same kind of numbers as Mo. That won't happen.
Meanwhile, Liverpool continues to explore options to strengthen their attack in the transfer market. Among players linked with the Merseysiders are Bradley Barcola and Ibrahima Mbaye from PSG.
