Bruno Fernandes has yet to agree a new contract with Manchester United, having turned down the club's initial proposal.
Insider Fabrizio Romano has emphasised that negotiations are ongoing and relations between the parties remain amicable.
Romano stated:
First and foremost, Bruno's current contract runs until 2027, but Manchester United have the option to extend it for another season, so the club is fully protected.
Secondly, it’s not about refusing a contract, but rather about negotiations. Saying ‘no’ and stating, ‘I want this, you want that, let’s find a solution’ are two different things.
As it stands, there is no agreement between Bruno Fernandes and Manchester United on a new contract, but discussions are ongoing. The relationship between both sides is very good.
The main points to resolve are salary, the new contract duration, and release clauses. Currently, Bruno's deal specifies a fee of around €65 million. It remains to be seen whether to maintain this clause, remove it, or alter the amount and conditions.
These negotiations are complex. Bruno is a fantastic player, but he’s no longer in his twenties; hence every new contract at this stage of his career is significant. There's no need to panic or create drama over this situation.
