Newcastle are closing in on 18-year-old Barcelona midfielder Guille Fernandez. The English side had made an attempt to secure the La Masia product back in January, and now their talks have advanced significantly.
Barcelona are open to parting ways with a few young talents, all while retaining the option to bring them back in the future. Fernandez is one of the players under consideration.
Details surrounding the financial aspects of the potential transfer remain undisclosed. Newcastle have checked in on Fernandez's availability multiple times, but the Catalan club were reluctant to let him go in the winter.
Having come through Barcelona's academy, Fernandez has featured for the club's teams at various age levels, including Barcelona Athletic. Over recent years, he has played 68 matches for the youth and reserve teams.
Although he has yet to make an official appearance for the first team, he underwent pre-season training under Hansi Flick and participated in the summer tour. Unfortunately, his development this autumn was hampered by an ankle injury.
Now, Newcastle have revisited the possibility of signing the Spaniard and are close to finalising the deal.
