Former Chelsea forward Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has heaped praise on the club's decision to bring in Danny Welbeck. The 35-year-old striker netted a brace in a dazzling 6-3 win against Leeds in the League Cup.
Chelsea found themselves trailing 2-0 but turned the tide in the second half. Cole Palmer struck twice in quick succession before Pedro Neto and Valentin Barco got on the scoresheet, with Welbeck adding two goals of his own.
Hasselbaink shared his thoughts on Sky Sports:
He will bring so much to the team, no doubt about it. He's played for Arsenal and Manchester United, and he had a great stint at Brighton. He understands he won't be the first choice at Chelsea and is ready to accept that role.
But he can offer a lot to the other players, both on and off the pitch. He’ll talk to his teammates, help them out while also wanting to score and be in key positions when it matters.
This is a fantastic signing for Chelsea.
Former England defender Conor Coady also highlighted Welbeck's leadership qualities:
