Crystal Palace are weighing up four potential replacements for Pierre Sagy following a humiliating 0-5 loss to Brighton. The head coach faces the sack due to the club's poor start to the Premier League season.

Crystal Palace are under immense pressure following a disastrous season opener. The club's horrendous 0-5 thrashing at the hands of Brighton has raised serious questions about their head coach, Pierre Sagy.

In recent years, the London side enjoyed significant success under the guidance of Oliver Glasner, claiming both the FA Cup and sensationally winning the UEFA Conference League. However, their fortunes have taken a sharp downturn since then, primarily attributed to the departure of key players.

Glasner's contract expired last summer, and he subsequently took charge of Nottingham Forest. In his place, Palace appointed Sagy, formerly of Lyon and Lens, but his start at Selhurst Park has been anything but smooth.

Poor performance and humiliation by Brighton

Under Sagy, Palace have managed just four victories from their first ten matches across all competitions. The situation in the Premier League is even bleaker, with the club currently sitting 14th in the table, having recorded only two wins in their opening seven matches.

Notably, their two league victories over Fulham and Nottingham Forest felt more like lucky flukes than solid results. The culmination of their playing woes came last Sunday, where Brighton ruthlessly dismantled them. The home side scored three unanswered goals within the first ten minutes, showcasing total dominance throughout the match.

Four candidates to save the season

According to TEAMtalk, the Palace hierarchy is deeply concerned about their current predicament. While the club publicly backs Sagy, behind the scenes there are already discussions about potential replacements. Representatives are actively working to present alternatives to chairman Steve Parish and the top brass.

Reports have emerged citing four candidates who are already being considered for the vacant managerial role:

  • Rob Edwards (former Wolves boss)
  • Kieran McKenna (ex-Ipswich Town manager)
  • Scott Parker (former West Ham and Fulham coach)
  • Vitor Matos (current Swansea City head coach)

The club's owners had hoped that appointing Sagy would lay the foundation for a new successful era following Glasner's departure. However, the major summer changes have failed to deliver the desired stability, and the catastrophic defeat against Brighton has brought matters to a head.

Crystal Palace now face a crucial European challenge against Turkish outfit Besiktas, followed by a pivotal home fixture against Newcastle United on Sunday. This match could be decisive for Sagy, who is under immense pressure to curb the escalating criticism and prove he remains the right man for the job.
