Chelsea have announced significant changes in ownership: Clearlake Capital will acquire Todd Boehly's and Mark Walter's stakes, taking full control of the club. Boehly steps down as chairman, while Hansjorg Wyss retains his share.

Chelsea have revealed a major shift in their ownership structure as Clearlake Capital is set to acquire the shares of Todd Boehly and Mark Walter, giving them complete control of the club. Hansjorg Wyss, however, will continue to be a shareholder and a partner in the ownership group.

Boehly will also step down from his role as chairman, a position he has held since the club's ownership changed in 2022 following the exit of Roman Abramovich. Clearlake has been the majority owner since the acquisition, led by Boehly's consortium.

In an official statement, Chelsea emphasised that these changes will not affect the day-to-day operations of the club, its leadership, or its chosen strategy.

Commenting on his departure, Boehly stated:

It has been a great honour to serve as chairman of Chelsea Football Club. I would like to thank everyone who has helped secure a bright future for the club, including the Premier League, coaches, players, the leadership team and staff, as well as the huge number of dedicated fans.

I appreciate my partnership with Clearlake and the other owners, as well as the collaborative decisions and investments we have made for the club's current and future success. I am confident that under Clearlake's leadership, Chelsea is in an excellent position for further achievements.

Clearlake co-founders Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano expressed their gratitude to Boehly for his contributions and reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing investments in the club's development:

Todd has been an important partner throughout our time owning Chelsea, and we thank him for his time and contributions as chairman. He will forever be a part of Chelsea’s history and family.

Having been the majority owners since 2022, we will continue to invest in the club's infrastructure, sporting performance, and player development, ensuring long-term success for Chelsea and its supporters.

Along with Boehly, Walter and Wyss were part of the consortium that acquired Chelsea in 2022, a deal valued at £2.5 billion. The new owners also committed to directing an additional £1.75 billion towards further investments.

Thus, after four years of shared management, the ownership structure at Chelsea sees significant change: Boehly and Walter exit as owners, while Clearlake consolidates control, with Wyss remaining as a shareholder.
