Aston Villa will offer Ian Maatsen a new contract to block Manchester United's interest. The Birmingham side has no intention of selling the defender before the transfer window closes.

Aston Villa is preparing to offer Ian Maatsen a fresh long-term contract as they look to fend off interest from Manchester United. This move comes as the Red Devils reportedly scout the Dutch defender in the lead-up to the transfer window closing.

So far, there have been no direct negotiations between the clubs. Villa is adamant that they will not sell Maatsen, who featured in the starting XI during their opening Premier League clash against Brighton. Following the sale of Lucas Digne to PSG, the club has already reinforced their left flank by acquiring Matteo Ruggeri and are keen to establish a strong partnership with Maatsen.

Meanwhile, Manchester United's search for a left-back continues. They have long held an interest in Lewis Hall from Newcastle, but that transfer now appears to be off the table. With Luke Shaw as their only experienced option on the flank, United may have to postpone any new arrivals until future transfer windows.
