Chelsea's head coach Xabi Alonso believes his team needs to become more balanced and learn to secure results not just in open and high-scoring matches.
Their latest victory over Leeds, a thrilling 6-3, has further characterised an unusual start to the season for the Blues, who have already netted 26 times in their first five games.
Reflecting on this remarkable statistic, Alonso stated:
It’s too early to assess what type of team we will become. I can see that the connections and interactions among the players will be very important.
We need to keep working on what we're doing well and improve on other aspects.
We want to be more balanced, more reliable, and be able to win, even in the dull matches, when necessary.
The Spaniard emphasised his focus is already shifting towards the upcoming two matches before the international break:
We’ve played five matches and have now progressed in the League Cup. We have two fundamentally important games ahead of us before the break. That’s all we’re focused on. We want to finish this segment strongly. We’re facing two tough matches against Hull and Brentford.
