Defender and key figure at Manchester City, Ruben Dias, has shared his thoughts following the team's 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in the FA Community Shield at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.
This match marked the first official game for City's new head coach, Enzo Maresca, following Pep Guardiola's departure. The champions of England found themselves behind early, with goals from Riccardo Calafiori (just 24 seconds in), Kai Havertz, and Martin Odegaard sealing the fate of the match.
Speaking after the final whistle, Ruben Dias stated:
The way the match started set the tone for the entire game, and Arsenal felt comfortable. At the end of the day, this is just the beginning. What’s most important is that we’re looking ahead and will be ready for the next match.
I joined the team midway through pre-season, and this was only my third match after returning. Today's result is disappointing — it was a final, and we wanted to win. But if there’s a lesson to learn, let it be taken from the very start of the season, as we have many more matches ahead.
Dias also acknowledged that during this period of transition and managerial change, challenges are inevitable; however, the squad maintains a positive and professional attitude. Looking ahead, Manchester City will open their Premier League campaign against Bournemouth.
