23-year-old Bosnian international defender Amar Dedich has arrived in Newcastle after a private flight from Lisbon.
The player has made it to the Magpies' training base to complete his mandatory medical examination and is set to officially sign a five-year contract with the Premier League side, which will keep him at the club until June 2031.
The transfer fee agreed between Newcastle and Benfica stands at £29.5 million (around €35 million), including both fixed payments and bonuses.
Securing Dedich has become a priority for Newcastle's hierarchy due to Tino Livramento's injury and the departure of experienced players. The club hopes to register the Bosnian ahead of their opening Premier League match against Liverpool.
Dedich is versatile, able to effectively cover both the right and left wings of defence. Last season, he made 44 appearances for Benfica and was a key player for his national team.
