15-Second Brief
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has urged the club's hierarchy to sack Michael Carrick due to a woeful start to the season, believing that only Antonio Conte can save the team and return it to trophy contention.

Loyal servant to Manchester United, Paul Scholes, insists that Antonio Conte should be the club's number one choice to take over from Michael Carrick.

The Red Devils have endured a disastrous start to the season, suffering a humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Bournemouth at Old Trafford last weekend. Rumblings of discontent within the squad are growing louder as performances falter.

Should the hierarchy decide to part ways with Carrick, Scholes believes that only the experienced Italian can steer the club back on course.

You need to choose a manager who can get us back to being competitive in the Premier League. Out of those three, Antonio Conte is the man, but he comes with a huge caveat. He's made it clear he wants the job, and I’m sure the club has spoken to all three. I struggle to understand why he would want this role as I don’t think the team is good enough for him.

While Scholes also highlighted Unai Emery from Aston Villa as a contender, he was unequivocal in his preference for Conte.

I think Conte is the best. When I think about the top names out there, he stands head and shoulders above the rest. Look at his success with Juventus, then Napoli, and winning the league with them. Sure, he has a fiery temperament and can be a bit mad, but when it comes to successful managers at top clubs, he’s miles ahead. I don’t care if it’s just a short-term fix. If he can come in for 18 months and challenge for the title, that would be a success. The more I ponder it, the more convinced I am that Conte needs to come in and start shaking things up.
