Mikel Arteta has not ruled out the early return of Ethan Nwaneri from Borussia Dortmund in January. The loan agreement has provisions for this. The manager also confirmed that the young midfielder would be eligible to play against Arsenal in the Champions League.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has indicated that a return for Ethan Nwaneri from Borussia Dortmund could be on the cards as early as January.

The agreement for the midfielder's loan includes a clause that allows for this possibility.

Arteta commented:

Can we bring Ethan back in January? We'll see, it's not out of the question. But right now, Ethan needs to focus on playing for a fantastic club. There's a great atmosphere and excellent conditions there, and they have the Champions League ahead of them. He needs to channel all his talent to benefit Borussia. After that, we'll see what happens.

The manager was also asked whether Nwaneri would be eligible to play against Arsenal if the two teams met in the Champions League:

That’s now a possibility. Different rules apply here, not like in the Premier League. So yes.
