Tyrrell Malasia has expressed that he has no regrets about his move to Manchester United, despite encountering severe obstacles during his time at the club when he was sidelined by coach Ruben Amorim.
The left-back is currently reviving his career with MLS side Cincinnati after his contract with the English club expired last summer.
Following two serious knee surgeries, Malasia made his comeback in November 2024, but his playing time was limited. In an interview with BBC Sport, the player opened up about his experiences.
I wouldn't regret anything, not one bit. Even if I could do it again, I would make the same decisions because if not, I wouldn't be the person I am today.
As the 2025 pre-season approached, Malasia found himself among a group of players instructed to train away from the main squad.
I don't know where that came from; I don't know if it was Ruben or someone above him. But I never spoke about it; I just kept working and doing my job, although sometimes it was tough training with just five of us.
At one point, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and even Antony left. Then I was left on my own, training with the second team and even the under-18s. It’s hard, psychologically hard.
Later, discussions with Michael Carrick about a possible move in January came to nothing due to the squad's player shortage.
Now, Malasia has enjoyed his first run in the starting XI for Cincinnati, appearing in four consecutive matches since September 2022.
As a footballer, you want to play. Now that I can do that regularly, I'm happy.
