Chelsea legend John Terry has opened up about a difficult conversation with defender Tosin Adarabioyo, who was left despondent after learning he had no future at the club under new head coach Xabi Alonso. On deadline day, the player moved to Tottenham for £7 million.
Terry, speaking on GBFC, shared details from his personal discussion with the defender before his transfer:
I spoke with Tosin recently and asked, 'What did the coach say?' He replied, 'I'm just not in his plans... I'm devastated, having spent just a couple of years here.'
The former captain of the Blues praised the Spanish manager's straightforwardness:
Xabi made it very clear that he is currently a big fan of Josh Achaimpong. I really like that level of honesty.
At Tottenham, Adarabioyo joins Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk, who had moved to North London earlier on a season-long loan.
Terry also expressed concern regarding Chelsea's midfield depth. He highlighted the leadership qualities of new signing Jordan Henderson but underscored that the club should have signed another midfielder to bolster the defensive line.
