Aston Villa is set to offer a new contract to defender Victor Lindelof, potentially keeping him at the club until summer 2028.

Aston Villa's hierarchy have decided to offer a new contract to defender Victor Lindelof. The Swedish player has been putting in impressive performances since his move to the Birmingham club, according to reports.

The 32-year-old's current deal expires next summer, but the club has already informed the defender of their desire to extend their partnership for at least another year. An official announcement regarding the deal is expected soon, though it might take a bit longer to formalise.

Lindelof joined Aston Villa just over a year ago, having spent eight seasons with Manchester United prior to his transfer. He quickly established himself in the squad, playing a pivotal role in the club's triumph in the Europa League last season, starting in the final match where Aston Villa triumphed over Freiburg with a 3-0 victory.

The strong form of the central defender has continued into the current campaign, as he has started all eight of Villa's Premier League matches, highlighting his importance in the team’s defensive line.

Lindelof also remains a key player for the Swedish national team, having helped them qualify for the World Cup and playing every minute in the tournament last summer.

This new agreement will allow the Swedish captain to remain with Aston Villa until at least the summer of 2028, while also ensuring he maintains stable playing time for the national team ahead of the 2028 European Championship, which will be hosted in the UK and Ireland.
