Manchester United are facing fierce opposition from local residents over plans to open a new fan zone right behind the iconic Stretford End. This report comes from the Daily Mail.
The site, named ‘The Paddock’, is designed to accommodate 1,300 supporters. To move forward with this initiative, the Manchester club needs to secure official construction and operational permissions from Trafford Council.
However, residents from nearby areas have expressed strong discontent, submitting an official petition to Trafford Council with 50 signatures. The locals are seriously concerned about the high levels of noise pollution and the adverse effects of a large, rowdy crowd on their everyday life. The petition highlights that the planned fan zone will be just 110 metres from residential homes and could operate for up to six additional hours on days of 19 to 30 home matches each year.
In response to the community's concerns, Manchester United have stated that access to ‘The Paddock’ will be completely free and will only open on official match days. Club representatives promised to work closely with the local community to minimise any disruptions, suggesting the installation of modern soundproof screens and directing all sound equipment away from residential buildings.
