Liverpool have pinpointed Murillo from Nottingham Forest and Nico Schlotterbeck from Borussia Dortmund as their top transfer targets for 2027, seeking defensive reinforcement.
The future of 35-year-old captain Virgil van Dijk remains uncertain. His contract expires at the end of the 2026/27 season. The club is expected to offer him a new deal, but no agreement has been reached yet.
According to The Daily Briefing, Liverpool are also monitoring Alessandro Bastoni from Inter and Jules Kounde from Barcelona. However, Murillo and Schlotterbeck, whose combined transfer value is estimated at €123.9 million, remain the priority options. The club is looking for a centre-back capable of initiating attacks from deep and comfortable in possession.
Additionally, former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes the club should recall Jarell Quansah from Bayer Leverkusen.
You know what I would do? I would try to bring back Jarell Quansah. There’s a buyback option for €65 million, and for me, that’s an obvious choice. Next season, if Virgil goes, you look at the squad and we could have Ronald Araujo, Jeremy Jayle, Giovanni Leoni, and Quansah. That’s four great options.
Arne Slot didn't rate Quansah after that first game of the season against Ipswich. It was clear he didn't let him play, didn’t particularly value him, but he proved Arne wrong. He went to Bayer and is doing very well. He’s playing well for England.
In my opinion, you need four really good centre-backs. It’s an obvious choice – bring Quansah back next year. Absolutely, 100 percent. 100 percent, mate. The main thing is that he wants to come. He’s a lad from Warrington. I hope he supports Liverpool, and if so, there’s no reason not to go and get him. Liverpool have the buyback right. If they want him, they need to go and get him. And then next year, in terms of centre-backs, we will be really solid.
