Liverpool midfielder Florian Wirtz is not planning a transfer to Chelsea. The player is uninterested in reuniting with Xabi Alonso, under whom he played at Bayer.
Alonso took charge of Chelsea in the summer of 2026 and requested the club's management to sign the German. However, Wirtz and his father-agent Hans-Joachim Wirtz responded with a firm refusal.
Liverpool bought Wirtz in 2025 for £116 million. During his time at the club, he has scored eight goals and provided 14 assists in 61 appearances. Despite his inconsistent form and criticism from Jamie Carragher, the club continues to believe in the player. Insider Graham Bailey reported on the management's position.
Liverpool's management desperately wants this transfer to work and believes the player can thrive in the Premier League. Nevertheless, patience is limited, and difficult decisions may need to be made if his situation does not improve. The club has invested heavily in Wirtz and wants those investments to pay off. However, there is an understanding that tough decisions will have to be made if his performances do not reach the expected level.
The midfielder's contract runs until the summer of 2030. Bayern Munich is also closely monitoring developments.
