Chelsea forward Danny Welbeck has opened up about his beginnings in professional football, reminiscing about the iconic Manchester United stars who shared the dressing room with him. During his time in the Manchester United academy, the talented forward benefitted greatly from the guidance of seasoned players.
I was incredibly lucky to be in that dressing room. There were phenomenal players, and I shared it with superstars as well as amazing people, Welbeck expressed.
The striker highlighted how the veterans willingly took the youth players under their wing:
They really helped me transition to the first team. They weren't obligated to do it, but that was their ethos and how they carried themselves as senior professionals.
Welbeck noted that observing the daily routines of these stars helped him grasp the expectations that come with elite football:
They made sure that our approach was impeccable, and there was a winning mentality amongst us. Watching how the senior players train day after day, prepare for sessions, travel, rest and eat — I always absorbed all those things.
In wrapping up, the forward added that throughout his career, whether playing for Manchester United, the England national team, or other clubs, he has always aimed to adopt the best qualities from various coaches and teammates, feeling truly privileged to have had a selection of superb mentors around him.
