Bournemouth and Crystal Palace were in action in the latest round of the Europa League group stages. The Cherries thrashed Italian giants Milan, while the Eagles were held to a draw by Turkish side Besiktas.
The English side were quick off the mark against Milan, opening the scoring in the eighth minute via a penalty converted by Justin Kluivert after a handball.
Things went from bad to worse for the visitors when goalkeeper Mike Maignan was shown a red card for a reckless foul on Tyler Adams in the 32nd minute, gifting Bournemouth a second penalty, which Marcus Tavernier capitalised on to double the hosts' lead.
In the second half, Bournemouth maintained control of the match, and it was Ameen Adli who sealed a resounding victory with a stunning free kick in the 84th minute.
Meanwhile, in a parallel matchup, Crystal Palace were guests of Besiktas and thought they had scored first, only for Jean-Philippe Mateta’s effort to be ruled out for offside.
Besiktas took the lead just before half-time, with Wilfried Ndidi finding the net to put the Turkish side 1-0 up.
However, the Eagles fought back swiftly in the second half, with goals from Yeremi Pino and Mateta putting them ahead, but they were left biting their nails when Junior Olaitan equalised with a long-range effort in the 73rd minute, leaving the final score at 2-2.
