Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko has reflected on the goalless draw with Tottenham in Matchday 4 of the Premier League.
After the final whistle, the Ukrainian international praised the current squad’s quality and spoke about the team’s main aim for the season.
Mykolenko lauds Everton's squad
Mykolenko believes that the current group of players is one of the best he has encountered since joining the club.
‘This group is so good. A few weeks ago, I mentioned that this is probably the best team I have seen at Everton since I came to the club.’
The defender also expressed his enjoyment in playing alongside his teammates.
‘I’m happy to play with them and I’m also glad to see the return of Jarrad [Branthwaite] and to be out there with him. He always supports me.’
Branthwaite aids Mykolenko in defence
Mykolenko elaborated on his partnership with Jarrad Branthwaite.
‘He is always behind me, supporting me. I know he will step in to challenge if I lose the ball or if my winger is in difficulty.’
Branthwaite’s return has bolstered Everton’s defence, and Mykolenko highlighted the importance of understanding among defenders.
‘Our aim is European football’
Regarding the season’s ambitions, Mykolenko stated that Everton is aiming for European qualification.
‘I hope we can make it to Europe this season. With such a small group of players, I know it will be tough. But our goal is European football.’
Everton finished the match against Tottenham with a score of 0-0. Although neither team managed to find the back of the net, the Merseysiders are steadfast in their pursuit of a strong position in the league table.
