Although Michael Carrick's job is not under immediate threat, the lacklustre performances have initiated conversations around who might step in should the situation deteriorate further.
After a disappointing defeat to Hull, the Red Devils managed a victory against Ipswich, followed by a draw with Everton, only to fall again to Manchester City. Carrick, having only recently signed a permanent deal, is currently safe, but speculation is rife about potential successors.

- Thomas Tuchel. Currently managing the England national side, Tuchel's availability hinges on upcoming international results. England have six matches scheduled in two international breaks ahead.
- Kieran McKenna. Familiarity with Old Trafford comes in the form of McKenna, who was part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's coaching staff. He later saw Ipswich promoted to the Premier League.
